Rock polishing has been a great hobby and you are never sure what you will find inside a given stone. Here is an overview of the process
This is a piece of Caymanite found only in the Cayman Islands. On a cruise, I went to the local market and found a man who had some 3lb chunks of rock at home he had collected. I bargained with him and brought a few pounds home.
This fern fossil is in silt stone. The stone has to be split before it shares it's fossil with you. I didn't touch the front but ground the back down to make it thin enough that it was not too heavy.
We have identified some of our rock slabs. On-line is a great source and look up on-line sales companies that sell rough rock
Sometimes people want to invest in jewelry but a lot of people just like to carry a pretty rock around in their pocket. We always find a lot of interest in the rocks that we tumble.
I hope to post that occasional rock when I have a few extra slabs or piece of uncut rough. Then maybe we can barter.
